Join us on a survival challenge in the North of Canada as we struggle to stay fed, watered, sheltered, and alive, in the middle of mosquito season!
Our survival depends on catching fish! We FISH for food with just a few basic fishing tools and make a tarp shelter out of what we can find in the woods.
We only use minimal gear including a tarp, fishing rod and reel and some basic fishing supplies such as hooks and worms. We use garbage bags instead of sleeping bags and a tarp rather than a tent. The mosquitoes nearly drive us nuts! We bring NO FOOD with us at all, and are forced to catch everything we eat in order to stave off starvation!
Our main goal is not only to survival but to thrive!
We catch fish starting with worms, but trade up to minnows in effort to get pike and catfish.
Courtney even catches a fish!
I’ll teach you to cook a fish right on hot coals – frying pan needed!
Can we stay dry and comfortable? Can we catch enough food to keep our energy levels up using just fishing line and a hook?
We use a saw and basic tools to make a bushcrafter shelter in the a Northern Canadian forest using materials around us.
I attempt a friction fire using primitive technology – a cedar spindle, hearth board, and some birch bark and cedar shavings for a tinder bundle. Can Courtney get a fire lite?
